A Wheelchair is a mode of transportation for the physically disabled. They have been around for almost 400 years, designed in the 16th century they were originally made from wood or wicker for lightness and strength.
* Wheelchair weight, in general a lighter chair is easier to push and easier for helpers to maneuver. Electric chairs are significantly heavier than manual chairs.
* Weight capacity, heavier framed persons may require a stronger chair
* Seat Height, this is critical for the comfort and ease of accessibility for the user
* Seat size, must be large enough to accommodate bulky clothing
* The type of terrain that you will be likely to come across, chairs can be outdoor, indoor or both
* Adjustibility of arm and foot rests, and the ease at which it can be assembled and disassembled
During World War 2, the electric wheelchair was invented, and these can be front, rear, mid or 4 wheel drive, and consist of the addition of a motor and a battery behind or underneath the seat. Electric chairs suit those with limited strength and/or mobility in their arms or upper torso.
